The question to ask is why.

A Two Rocket Weekend

Look to the east, it’s SpaceX

Look to the west, it’s SpaceX

From Cape Canaveral on Friday to Vandenberg Air Force Base on Sunday, the company was shooting rockets into space and landing the first-stage boosters each time. Now on Friday the first-stage did hit a bit hard, but it was difficult landing with Elon Much even saying there was a chance they would lose it.

Sunday marked the 13th time SpaceX has got the first-stage back intact. Twice so far, they have reused those very rockets for another mission, including the one on Friday. The ability to reuse rockets is a key ingredient for SpaceX. With Sunday’s launch, new up graded grid fins were use that will be able to withstand the heat of reentry better. Longer life without replacement. All part of making rickets less expensive to launch.

I will be the first admit that I am a fan of the company. I have long believed that space travel need to hit the private sector if we were to ever regain the drive to reach for the stars. Leaving it up to governments to do it has proven to be a waste. Just look at how many time we have been to the moon in the last 40 years.

SpaceX is doing it in a way that has many people waiting for what they will do next. I am happy to say I am one of those people.
